With all this web craziness, it’s easy to forget the hey day of print. Recently I was taking some photos of a brochure I designed back in the day where the real estate market was invincible and any signs of a bubble were just cautionary tales by the old timers.

The Chaparral Brochure was large in scale, and full of character. Complete with embossed leather cover, tarnished hardware, and leather string tie. It was a cool project to be involved in and looking back, a reminding of the real estate market that was at its peak.

The new Glenwood Recreation Center website is live! This Drupal 7 powered website is deploying some of the most cutting edge (well, modules running on D7 that is) web technologies available. Being on a Drupal foundation will allow the Glenwood Rec to grow their technology as budget and needs permit. The D7 platform gives the client the control they need of their CMS without the budget of backend theming.

Basalt Colorado is home to Lacroux Streeb Lighting Design. These folks do incredible lighting solutions for the Aspen elite and beyond. They were in need of a new website that was easy to use, but that also showcased their work in stunning simplicity. But their biggest problem wasn’t the out-dated website. It was their logo and website. Their brand was all over the place. Incredible samples of work framed by an old site, with an older logo that confused the audience of their capabilities and position in the market.

With a minor refreshing of their logo, and deployment of a custom Flash-like WordPress website, Lacroux Streeb is off and running. Their new brand presence is cohesive, and powerful. Their works tells the story and the logo and website support the message.

So the Base Camp campaign is really starting to take off. My only question is can I actually publish where these epic trails are, or is it still a secret?

This recent article in the Aspen Times by Janet Urquhart adds fuel to the fire that Carbondale’s future as a biking capital, and base camp for all things Colorado is starting to take hold.

The town has already taken a “base camp” marketing approach, boasting its proximity to what the valley as a whole has to offer, as well as what visitors will find in Carbondale — fly fishing and paddling on the Crystal and Roaring Fork rivers, cross-country skiing at Spring Gulch and backcountry opportunities on iconic Mount Sopris, to name a few. Bicycling — both road and mountain biking — could rise to the top of the list.

But for the folks at CCAH, (Carbondale’s non-profit arts organization), that is not the problem. They use their new WordPress-powered website so much, it has become a critical tool in communicating to the community for their organization. Check out their website here daily to see what is happening in Carbondale’s funky art and music scene.

Big Brand for Colorado’s Most Adventurous Small Town

Kenyon Brand was hired to build upon the town of Carbondale’s brand as it was just beginning to promote itself as more than just a town down-valley from Aspen and Snowmass. Us down valley trash, (DVT), as we are proudly known in these parts, know what makes Carbondale unique. Developing and designing the brand strategy has been one of our most enjoyable projects. I love this town, and love what I do when projects like this come around. Stay tuned for more on Carbondale’s new look as we head into 2010.

Kenyon Design Works was recently in the news discussing the value of a tourism oriented website for the Town of Carbondale. As a member of the Tourism Council, owner, Thomas Kenyon was pitching the idea to the Board of Trustees in a recent work session.

CARBONDALE, Colorado — A website dedicated specifically to attracting potential visitors to Carbondale is the main goal behind a request for additional town funding to support the project, local tourism officials explained at a Tuesday town council work session.

“Right now, the website [www.carbondale.com] is totally chamber oriented, and really is more of a business directory,” said Bob Fullerton, chairman of the Tourism Council of Carbondale. “What it needs to do is represent the broader Carbondale community”

Added web designer Tom Kenyon, who also works with the tourism committee, “The goal is to create a better brand for Carbondale, and a strong web presence is critical to that.

“We do have a lot of traffic to the website, but it’s not saying ‘come to Carbondale.’ It’s not generating that emotional buying decision,” Kenyon said.

When CCA approach us they were looking to refine their brand without rocking the boat. With subtle adjustments in color and consistent type treatments, the Cunniffe brand kept its traditional appeal and increased their roots in the resort market. In addition to print advertising and brochures, Charles Cunniffe Architects uses HTML eMail campaigns to stay connected with current and perspective clients.

Our challenge was to create a logo for a new real estate firm in Aspen that represented the area in a polished classic way. To our surprise, there was no real estate firm in Aspen that leveraged the resort town’s most revered and hairy resident. With classic type, and a strong iconic symbol, Aspen Estates comes out of the gate swinging as one of Aspen’s premier firms with a clear grasp of why visitors throughout the world aim to make Aspen home, or at least a second home that is.

If there was ever a client that made us jealous of what they do it is Mountain World Travel’s eco-adventure business. One look at their vast photo collection, (the kind they gathered from actually being there) will make anyone second guess what they do for a living. Developing a logo and website design was the easy part, knowing it will come to an end was the hard part. Every now and then we need to visit their website just to look at the amazing images from places that make the mountains of Colorado pale in comparison, something we thought was hard to do.
